Assistant Resident Legacy Project Coordinator (summer student)

Maplewood House and MSA Manor are long term care homes in Abbotsford, operated by Maplewood Care Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with chronic illness. Our around-the-clock long term care serves 112 residents. We also operate a Day Program for Older Adults that serve an average of 85 clients a week.

We currently have a summer job opportunity, in partnership with Canada Summer Jobs, in the area of therapeutic recreation, nursing, social services and special projects. This position is open for 8 weeks ending August 2020.

Purpose:  This position will gather the social history of residents and clients

Overview:

  • To improve person-centred care and expand the focus on the emotional and cognitive domains of the Leisure Ability Model
  • To gather social histories of residents and clients
  • To develop individual reminiscence kits using the social history collection tool
  • To assist with other similar projects within the organization

Wage Rate:         $16.00/hr

Hours:                   37.5 hours per week for 8 weeks

The individual interacts directly with the residents and clients and may be required to work some evenings or weekends.

This position is suitable for a student or an individual interested in the areas of nursing, therapeutic recreation or social services who want to pursue their careers in Health and Long Term Care. The individual will gain exposure to nursing, care home operations and other healthcare-related roles and responsibilities.
