Job Posting: Casual Food Services Cook

Maplewood House and MSA Manor are long term care homes in Abbotsford operated by Maplewood Care Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in supporting individuals with chronic illness.  There are 112 people who live in the two care homes. There is also a Day Program for Older Adults serving an average of 65 clients per week and support for caregivers.

We are currently seeking to fill casual positions at our Maplewood House location:

  • Casual – Food Services Cook

Overview – Casual Cook

As a member of the Food Services team upholding Maplewood Care Society’s (MCS’s) Vision, Mission, Philosophy Statements, and established policies and procedures, committing to professional and facility codes of ethics and functions within the regulations, standards and guidelines governing residential care.

Responsible for preparation, storage and service of menu items, to the required standards, as specified by the Food Services Supervisor.  Responsibilities also include the maintenance of the work area in a clean, safe and orderly manner and the supervision of food services staff in the absence of the Food Services Supervisor.

  • Minimum Grade 10 or equivalent is required and must possess a recognized diploma in industrial cooking and completion of Food Safe Level 2. Plus, one-year recent related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience, preferably in a health care environment.
  • Must possess the personal qualities and attitudes that respect and maintain the spirit, dignity and individuality of the residents.
  • Must be in good health and free from any communicable diseases and physically and mentally able to carry out the assigned duties in the working environment.
  • Must be able to speak and understand English competently and to understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, organize the daily operation and supervise subordinates.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relations, by displaying tact, courtesy and patience with the residents, their family and volunteers etc.
  • Must be able to carry out significant amounts of lifting, bending, stooping and stretching.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment associated with the duties of the position efficiently.
  • Training of WHIMIS

Compensation: Commensurate with the current collective agreement.

Work Schedule: This position is on an on-call, as needed basis.
